The following are basic guidelines to be followed.  They do not cover every situation that can and will occur.  Such situations will be handled on a “need to” basis.

-Please ensure that you ‘Like’ the Carousel Farms Barrel Racing Facebook page as show updates, cancellations, and basic information will be posted. You can also check on

-For those interested in competing for year-end awards there will be a $50 membership fee.  Points will only be kept for members and will not start accumulating until you become a member.  Please note POINTS WILL NOT BE RETROACTIVE.  You may pick up a membership form in the sign up room before or after the show or from Linda Mullen (919) 872-6898 or Christy Mullen (919) 389-9937.

Points will be awarded for each show.  Awards will be given at the end of the year to the top five point finishers in each division.  The times will be broken down into two divisions.  One half a second will separate the first and second divisions.  Five points will be awarded to 1st place in each division, four points to 2nd place in each division, 3 points to 3rd place, two points to 4th place and one point to 5th place in each division. You must be a member and compete in a minimum of 75% of the shows to be eligible for year-end placement awards.  Points will be posted in the sign up room every week.  In the event of a tie, the tiebreaker will go to the barrel racer who participated in the most shows.  If a second tiebreaker is needed, it will go to the member who won the most money for the season.

Participation awards are given at the end of the year in appreciation of those who are faithful in competing.  These are the girls that help make Tuesday nights so successful.  You must be a member and compete in 75% of the shows to be eligible for participation awards. Participation means that you call in, pay your entry fee, and run in the show. You must also pay any fees (turn-out and hat).

You will not receive credit for rained out shows.

The awards will be presented at the last show of the summer season (1st Tuesday in September).

-The entry fee will be $35 for members and $40 for non-members.  $25 will go towards the payout, $5 will go to the timer fee, and the remainder $5 will go towards year end awards.

-Effective the 2015 season, in order to be a member you need to be at least 13 years of age.  If you are under 13 and became a member before the 2015 season you will be “grandfathered” in and will be able to renew your membership for the 2015 season and beyond.

-Call in will be 7:00 – 8:00 for members and 8:00 – 9:00 for non-members the Thursday night before each show.  Please do not try to call in before 7:00. The call in number is (919) 872-6898.  We have room for only 25 barrel racers so be sure to call in on time. We would like for every member that wants to run to be able to run.  If you call in during the allotted time for members, it is more than likely you will be able to compete.  If you miss the call in time you will more than likely miss your opportunity to run that Tuesday night.  You may call in no more than one other contestant per phone call.  When you call in someone other than yourself, you will be responsible for their turnout fee in the event they do not show up at the scheduled show.  A member may not call in a non-member before 8:00 pm.

-There will be a $10 turnout fee for the barrel racer (member or non-member) that calls in and does not show up at the scheduled show.  You will have until 11:00 a.m. the Tuesday morning of the show to turn out without being charged a turn out fee.  You will not be able to participate in any barrel races at Carousel Farms Bull Ride / Barrel Race until the turnout fee has been paid.  Medical and vet releases will be accepted as excuse for not paying entry fee and will be limited to a total of 3 per year.  Any releases must be turned in to Jeff Mullen or Linda Mullen, within 7 days of missed show.

-There will be a $5 hat fine for any hat that hits the ground during your run.  This includes the alleyway as you are running in. This fee must be paid in order to run at the next show.

-Because time is limited it’s very important to be ready to run when your name is called.  Please be at the gate before it is your turn to run.  Your name will be called twice.  If you are not at the gate attempting to get your horse in the arena you will forfeit your run that night and your entry fee will not be returned.  When it is your turn to run you will have one minute to get your horse in the arena.  If you are unable to get your horse in after one minute we will go on to the next rider.  You will have one more minute to get your horse in at the end of the barrel racing.  If you are unable to get your horse in during the allotted two, one minute times, you will forfeit your run and your entry fee will not be returned.

-Appropriate Western attire is required for Grand Entry, Open Arena, and when competing.  Appropriate Western attire includes a Western hat, long sleeve, collared shirt and boots.  Shirt sleeves need to be rolled down and shirt tails tucked in.

Check in will be by 7:00 pm the night of the show.  Exact change will be appreciated.  Checks will not be accepted. Reminder, Barrel Racing will be at the beginning of the show.

-If it is your first show of the year with Carousel Farms Bull Ride / Barrel Race please have your license and a copy of your current Coggins (for Carousel Farms to keep on file) with you when you check in.  If you are under 18, you must take a parent or legal guardian with you when checking in for the first time. Reminder, if you bring a different horse to a show please bring their current Coggins and a copy for Carousel Farms to keep on file. This is due to the State Vet coming out periodically to check files.

-Barrel racers are admitted on the grounds free of charge and will be allowed one guest that must be in the vehicle with the rider. Any other non-participants traveling with you will be required to pay the admission fee.  Please take care of this at the gate upon arrival. This rule has changed drastically due to the new sales tax laws. Admission fees will now be $9.

-In the unfortunate event of a timer failure reruns will be taken at the barrel at the end of the barrel race.  You also have the option of using your stopwatch time.  You must decide immediately.  You cannot wait until the end of the barrel racing to decide.  If the timer fails for 3 or more girls, there will be no reruns, instead the stopwatch, not the timer, time will be used for every girl.  Refunds will not be given.  If you knock a barrel over during your first run, your penalty will be carried over to your re-ride.

If you are a 2015  Carousel Farms Barrel Racing member, you will have the first option of entering the December Bulls, Bells, and Barrels show at the NC State Hunt Horse Complex. Information regarding entering the show will be sent by US Mail and entry fees will be required to be paid by a certain date. Please ensure that your correct mailing address is listed on your Membership Form. If you have not paid your entry fee by the required date, the show will be opened up to additional riders who are not Carousel Farms Barrel Racing members to ensure that the event is full.

Promotor has the right to enter rider of choice at each show.
