RULES & GUIDELINES FOR BARREL RACERS

CAROUSEL FARMS BULL RIDE / BARREL RACING

The following are basic guidelines to be followed. They do not cover every situation that can and will occur. Such situations will be handled on a “need to” basis.

-For those interested in competing for year end awards there will be a $50 membership fee. Points will only be kept for members and will not start accumulating until you become a member. Please note POINTS WILL NOT BE RETROACTIVE. You may pick up a membership form in the sign up room before or after the show or from Lindy Janik (919)496-1212 / (919)426-3971.

-AWARDS:

Points will be awarded for each show. Awards will be given at the end of the year to the top five point finishers in each division. The times will be broken down into two divisions. One half a second will separate the first and second divisions. Five points will be awarded to 1st place in each division, four points to 2nd place in each division, 3 points to 3rd place, two points to 4th place and one point to 5th place in each division. You must be a member and compete in a minimum of 50% of the shows to be eligible for year end placement awards. Points will be posted in the sign up room every week. In the event of a tie, the tiebreaker will go to the barrel racer who participated in the most shows. If a second tiebreaker is needed, it will go to the member who won the most money for the season.

Participation awards are given at the end of the year in appreciation of those who are faithful in competing. These are the girls that help make Tuesday nights so successful. You must be a member and compete in 75% of the shows to be eligible for participation awards.

You will not receive credit for rained out shows.

-The entry fee will be $35 for members and $40 for non members. $25 will go towards the payout, $5 will go to the timer fee, and the remainder will go towards year end awards.

-Effective the 2012 season, in order to be a member you will need to be at least 13 years of age. If you are under 13 and became a member before the 2012 season you will be “grandfathered” in and will be able to renew your membership for the 2012 season and beyond.

-Call in will be 7:00 – 8:30 for members and 8:30 – 9:30 for non members the Thursday night before each show. The call in number is (919)872-6898. We have room for only 20 barrel racers so be sure to call in on time. We would like for every member that wants to run to be able to run. If you call in during the allotted time for members, it is more than likely you will be able to compete. If you miss the call in time you will more than likely miss your opportunity to run that Tuesday night. You may call in no more than two contestants per phone call. When you call in someone other then yourself, you will be responsible for their turnout fee in the event they do not show up at the scheduled show. A member may not call in a non member before 8:30 pm.

-There will be a $10 turnout fee for the barrel racer (member or non member) that calls in and does not show up at the scheduled show. You will have until 11:00 a.m. the Tuesday morning of the show to turn out without being charged a turn out fee. You will not be able to participate in any barrel races at Carousel Farms Bull Ride / Barrel Race until the turnout fee has been paid. Medical and vet releases will be accepted as excuse for not paying entry fee and will be limited to a total of 3 per year. Any releases must be turned in to Lindy Janik, Jeff or Linda Mullens, within 7 days of missed show.

-There will be a $5 hat fine for any hat that hits the ground during your run. This includes the alleyway as you are running in.

-Because time is limited it’s very important to be ready to run when your name is called. Please be at the gate before it is your turn to run. Your name will be called twice. If you are not at the gate attempting to get your horse in the arena you will forfeit your run that night.

-Appropriate Western attire is required for Grand Entry, Open Arena, and when competing. Appropriate Western attire includes a Western hat, long sleeve, collared shirt and boots. Shirt sleeves need to be rolled down and shirt tails tucked in.

-Check in will be 7:00 pm the night of the show. Exact change will be appreciated. Checks will not be accepted.

-If it is your first show of the year with Carousel Farms Bull Ride / Barrel Race please have your license with you when you check in. If you are under 18, you must take a parent or legal guardian with you when checking in for the first time.

-Barrel racers are admitted on the grounds free of charge and will be allowed one guest. Any other non participants traveling with you will be required to pay the admission fee. Please take care of this at the gate upon arrival.

-In the unfortunate event of a timer failure reruns will be taken at the barrel racer’s discretion, either at the end of the barrel race, or immediately following the show. You also have the option of using your stopwatch time. You must decide immediately. You cannot wait until the end of the barrel racing to decide. If the timer fails for 3 or more girls, there will be no reruns, instead the stopwatch, not the timer, time will be used for every girl. Refunds will not be given. If you knock a barrel over during your first run, your penalty will be carried over to your reride.

-Every year there will be a cutoff date for when memberships will no longer be accepted. This way members that join too late in the year to be eligible for any awards will not be taking points away from those that have been competing all year. The cutoff date for joining the 2011 season will be July 26th.
